Why did I not get a game assignment? 

There are many factors to assigning games at the NYSA. 
Every week an email is sent asking for availability for the upcoming weekend. A response to this email is required for assignment. If no response is provided,  then you go into a standby pool and will only be assigned a game if we run out of officials.  

A list is compiled of those that select they are available. This list is in order of response. Those that respond first are assigned games prior to those that respond with their availability afterwards. Additionally, there may be more available referees then games. Referees without an assignment the previous week will receive precedence over those that did receive assignment. Some weeks there will be more games than available officials and all available officials will be assigned multiple games.

Skill, age, experience, and training participation are also factored into assignments. Participation referee training event(s) increases your likeliness of assignment. These events include any USA Soccer Referee certification or our NYSA classroom, tests, and FTE.

Performance will also become a factor after the first couple of weeks. The better you perform, the more games you will be assigned. 

Summarized list of reasons:

Did you respond to the availability request?
Did you attend the training event(s) and take the tests?
Did you wait until late in the week to respond to the availability request?
Did you work a game the previous week?
Are you showing up to assigned games on time?
Performance – are you reviewing, studying and preparing (it WILL show)?
Are you USSF certified? (certified refs go to the top of the priority list and get paid more)

Pay Chart:

U8: Center - $25;       Assistant Referee - N/A

U10: Center $30;  Assistant Referee - N/A

U12: Center $35; Assistant Referee - $25

U16: Center - $40 Assistant Referee - $30
